Established in 1988, PREP is proud of our history of breaking down barriers for children with Down syndrome so they can live active and included lives in their communities. We accomplish this through our therapeutic and educational services for children with Down syndrome, our comprehensive parent support services, and our professional educator training. Last year we were able to provide these services to 120 families in Calgary and the surrounding area. Every day at PREP we see the impact of our work and we truly believe that if children with Down syndrome have the right support, resources, and appropriate environments for success, they can accomplish incredible things.
We begin our relationship with families when their child with Down syndrome is first born and invite them to our Early Learning program. This is a weekly play-based group that introduces families to resources and therapies designed to promote early intervention for success. We also offer a multidisciplinary ECS program (PUF funded) that provides the skills necessary for our students to successfully transition into Kindergarten. For our older children, we offer a number of therapeutic and educational services, including speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, behaviour therapy, and reading instruction. For our teens, we have a classroom based program focused on building independence, self-advocacy, regulation, and communication skills.
We also offer a range of workshops, webinars, resources, and bring in guest speakers to build the confidence and knowledge of our PREP parents. For educators, we offer a range of workshops and professional development opportunities to help them create successful inclusive environments in their classrooms.
At PREP we see the incredible accomplishments that our children with Down syndrome can achieve when they are provided with adequate support and we are proud to support these incredible families on their lifelong journey of inclusion.
