Banbury Crossroads, established in 1979, is an independent K–12 school in Calgary offering two programs. One is a unique Self‑Directed Learning (SDL) program with a focus on intrinsic motivation, small class sizes (10:1 for Grades 1–6, 15:1 for Grades 7–12), and individualized mastery-based learning, while the other is an Academy program for students with learning challenges. Rooted in mutual respect and multi‑age classrooms, the SDL model empowers students to set their own goals, manage their learning, and progress at their own pace through tutorial-style instruction. The school also operates the Banbury Crossroads Academy, a teacher-guided program for Grades 1–12 serving students with diverse learning needs at a 6:1 ratio, combining targeted instruction with strong mentorship. Known for its nurturing and inclusive atmosphere, Banbury encourages real-world learning through field trips, internships, extracurriculars, and a focus on social-emotional growth . With consistent high satisfaction among families—and being highly rated on OurKids.net—Banbury supports well-rounded student development within its safe, supportive community.
